A move, a new baby, a layoff, a diagnosis, retirement. Some changes leave you unmoored, as if the old map stopped working and you're not sure who you are on the other side. When a change shifts who you are
Some changes rearrange your calendar. Others rearrange you. Even welcome ones, like a promotion, a wedding or a long-awaited move, can take away routines, relationships and parts of your identity you didn't know you leaned on. It's common to feel flat, restless or disconnected, and to wonder why you aren't happier.
Therapy gives you space to grieve what changed, make sense of who you're becoming, and find your footing again.
For new dads
Becoming a father can be one of the biggest identity shifts of a man's life, and it's rarely talked about. Sleep disappears, your relationship changes, and you may feel pressure to be the steady one while privately feeling lost, anxious or far away from yourself. As a dad myself, I'm glad to be someone you can talk to about all of it, without judgment.
How therapy helps
We'll look at what this change has taken from you and what it's asking of you. We'll name the expectations, yours and other people's, that make it harder. And we'll find small, practical steps that help you feel more like yourself again, without waiting for life to settle down first.
Common questions about life transitions
What counts as a life transition?
Any change that shifts who you are or how your days work: a move, a new job or the loss of one, retirement, an empty nest, a new baby, a health change, the end of a relationship, or a milestone that didn't feel the way you expected.
Do I need to be in crisis to start therapy?
No. Many people come in because something feels off and they can't name it yet. That's a good time to start.
Why do I feel lost after something good happened?
Even welcome changes take away routines and parts of your identity. Feeling flat or disoriented after a promotion, a wedding or a move is common, and it usually means you're adjusting, not that you chose wrong.
Do you work with new dads?
Yes. Becoming a father is a big transition, and many dads feel they have to hold it together for everyone else. I'm a dad too, and I'm glad to help you sort through it.
How long does therapy for a transition take?
Often a few months, sometimes longer if the change touched older patterns. We'll check in regularly on what's helping.
