Anxiety that looks like having it together
A lot of the people I see don't look anxious. They're reliable, prepared and good at their jobs. Underneath, they're replaying conversations, rehearsing worst cases, checking their bodies for signs that something's wrong, and rarely resting. The worry gets things done, so it's easy to believe you need it.
It also costs a lot: sleep, patience, enjoyment, and the sense of being present in your own life.
How anxiety therapy helps
We start by understanding what your anxiety is trying to protect you from. Then we gently loosen the habits that keep it going, like checking, reassurance-seeking and overpreparing, so your mind learns it can handle uncertainty. When you want them, I'll offer practical tools for the hard moments: calming your body, catching the spiral early, and getting back to what matters to you.
Common questions about anxiety
What causes health anxiety?
Often a past medical scare, a loss, or a period when your body truly did let you down. The worry is trying to protect you. We help it stand down.
What is high-functioning anxiety?
It's anxiety that hides behind getting things done. You meet deadlines, show up for people, and look calm. Underneath, you're overpreparing, overthinking and rarely resting. It isn't a formal diagnosis, but it's a real pattern, and it often runs on fear of letting people down.
How do I know if my anxiety needs therapy?
A good sign is when worry starts costing you things: sleep, focus, patience with people you love, or enjoyment of things that used to feel good. You don't have to wait until it's unbearable.
Why does reassurance stop working?
Checking your symptoms, asking someone if you're okay, or rereading an email five times brings a moment of relief. Then the worry comes back louder. In therapy we gently loosen that loop so your mind learns it can handle uncertainty.
Can anxiety cause derealization?
Yes. When anxiety runs high for a long stretch, some people start to feel foggy, unreal or detached. It's frightening, but it's a known stress response. If that's part of your experience, see my derealization page.
